How to put pictures/graphics in your journal

I remember the first time I tried to put pictures in my journal.  It was a bit of a mess.  Luckily someone was kind enough to send me easy to understand directions on how to do it.  I'm sure that most of you already know all of this, but I wanted to put this on here for those who are new to the journals and posting pictures.  So here is a detailed explanation on how to save pictures to your computer and upload them to your journal.

SAVING
First, right click on the picture/graphic you want to save (whether it is on a journal, on a web site or in an email).  Now see where it says "Save Picture As...", that is what you want to click.  Now you can save the picture on your computer (I have created a specific file for this).  You can save the picture with whatever name you want.

UPLOADING
Now that the picture is on your computer you can save it in your FTP space.  AOL provides you with this space for free, and it is fairly easy to upload the picture/graphic to your journal from there.  Or if you prefer to, you can get more space if you need to at some place like Image Shack, or one of the many other places that offer free image storage.

To save it to your FTP, you need to find it first, lol.  Click "Keyword" and type in My FTP space.  This should bring up your personal storage space on AOL.  I put mine in my favorites so it is easier to get to when I need it.

Now, click where it says "See my FTP space".  You should see a file that says "Images", click on this.  Now click the upload button.  Type in the name of the file, it must be followed by ".jpg" (not the quotation marks though).  For example, if your uploading something titled flowers, type it like this>>>>>>  flowers.jpg

Click the "continue" button.  This will bring up the Upload file, click the "select file" button, and locate the file on your computer (wherever you saved it).  Open the file and then click the send button.  The length of time it takes to upload depends on the size of the picture/graphic file and the speed of your connection.

PUTTING IT ON YOUR JOURNAL
To place the picture/graphic in your journal, click the "add entry" button on your journal.  You can do it the AOL way by just clicking the "Add pictures from AOL Hometown" link---then click the images button that comes up---choosing the picture and clicking the "add picture" button.  I don't like this though, the pictures are much too small.  Blah!

Instead you can click the "Add pictures from AOL Hometown" link---then click the images button that comes up, locate your picture.  When it shows up in the box on the right, RIGHT CLICK it and go to COPY.  Now close the Add a picture box, go to your entry, right click wherever you want to put the picture and click paste.  Viola!  Your picture should appear in it's original size.

You can do this to add pictures to your "About me" section too.  Just go to add entry first, get the copy of whatever picture you want (don't paste it in the entry section, just cancel out of that) and go paste it in your About me section.

I hope I've covered everything in easy to understand directions and that this information is useful to someone.  I know that since I do this all the time, it seems simple to me, but the first time I tried it was a bit confusing.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I will try to help.  Please put Coloring Inside the Lines in the subject line so I will know it isn't a spam mail, lol.  I will try to get back to you ASAP.

Also, here is a link to the AOL page for help with journals.  AOL Hometown - Help   I believe they have a pretty detailed explanation on how to add pictures.  However, I think it is using your AOL Album or something like that.

Another place to go for instructions is here> The Big Picture

Again, if anyone ever needs help feel free to send me an email with your questions.  If I can help I will be happy to.

Happy picture posting!
